It’s March 24, 2017, and April the giraffe is still pregnant, much to the dismay of her many fans who can’t wait to see her give birth live and online. April is a 15-year-old Reticulated giraffe who lives at the Animal Adventure Park (AAP) in Harpursville, New York. This is her fourth calf and the first for her five-year-old mate Oliver. The AAP will live stream April’s birth and the opportunity to see a giraffe born live online has filled people with great joy. Just as you can judge how close April is to active labor by changes in her udders, there are changes in her belly that also indicate how well she is progressing. If you haven’t watched the live cam streaming from the Animal Adventure Park you may do so below. Please note, this is a video playlist used with permission. There are several signs and changes that April must undergo before active labor begins. One of the surefire ways to know how April is progressing in her journey towards active labor is by judging the changes in her belly. Since the Animal Adventure Park first set up a live cam on YouTube to share the wonderful experience with viewers, there have been notable changes in April’s belly size. Those who watch the giraffe cam on a regular basis may have noticed that April’s belly is getting larger.
The Animal Adventure Park shares photos with their daily updates and several of the included photos feature pictures of April’s stomach. Here are photos of April’s belly and the changes that have occurred in the past few months. There is no question that April is preparing for active labor and judging by how much her belly has grown, it won’t be long before active labor begins.
On March 19, the Animal Adventure Park shared an update that included a photo of April’s calf pressing against her side. The photo was a great way to see just how much April’s baby has grown within the womb. You may see that photo as shared on the official Animal Adventure Facebook page below.
The photos shared on March 18 provided the best comparison for April’s growth. While watching the live giraffe cam, it’s plain to see that April’s belly grows larger, but seeing her belly in the photos really brought it to another level. The update included commentary regarding April’s belly dropping. At this point in time, we are still waiting for April’s belly to drop and for her udders to begin producing milk and for her to shed wax caps so that active labor may begin. The photos also included a picture of recent changes in April’s udders. Are you excited for April to shed the wax caps and begin producing milk?
Another sign of a giraffe going into active labor is increased activity and movement of the baby. On March 10, the Animal Adventure Park shared more photos showing April’s belly and how the baby calf is moving inside.
Compare the photos above with this picture of April’s belly taken on March 4. You’ll definitely see significant changes with her belly size at the beginning of the month to now. Also, check out April’s belly size in the live giraffe cam. Wow! She sure is growing at an amazing rate!
The March 2 photos showed an even smaller belly than what we are seeing now!
Compare April’s belly with the size of her belly in this video from November. Back then, it was suspected that April would deliver her calf in January or February.
