Things are really moving and it looks like April is finally making the final preparations to get into active labor. The Animal Adventure Park (AAP) first began streaming live video footage of April, a 15-year-old Reticulated giraffe who lives at the park with her five-year-old mate Oliver “Ollie” back in January. They knew April was pregnant and wanted to share the birth of her calf with the world, but weren’t sure exactly when she was due. From the beginning of the live giraffe cam, the thought was April would give birth to her calf somewhere between the end of January and middle of February. When that time frame came and went, it was realized that April was not going to deliver as soon as previously thought. The good news now is that according to the latest updates from the Animal Adventure Park, April is going to go into active labor soon. In fact, she might just deliver her precious calf this week! It seems like ages ago when I wrote the article that April would give birth “imminently.” I, like many others, can laugh about that now as we all agree that April gave the word “imminent” new meaning.
April the Giraffe: Watch Live Cam from Animal Adventure Park
The following is a video playlist of videos uploaded by the Animal Adventure Park (with one other video included). There are unscrupulous people out there who are trying to claim the live giraffe cam as their own. Some are so audacious they’re saying that April already gave birth! Rest assured, April the giraffe is still pregnant; but the way things are moving, she might not be pregnant much longer.
Since I discovered the beautiful giraffe walking in her stall on YouTube, I’ve become an avid fan. I enjoy watching April as do many others. Additionally, like many, I have learned a great deal about giraffes in general, that their numbers in the wild are declining and that the most important thing to watch when a giraffe might go into active labor is her udders. In fact, April’s udders are so important the Animal Adventure Park is posting photos of them! In the morning update for March 28, 2017, the Animal Adventure Park announced they would keep sharing photos of her udders as they are quickly filling with milk.
Here are the latest labor updates as shared by the Animal Adventure Park.

The photo below features Oliver, not April. According to the update, it was taken on May 16, 2015, and Oliver was the first giraffe to return to Broome County, New York in over 50 years! Due to the momentous occasion, May 16 is now Oliver the Giraffe day. Included in the update is information regarding April’s udders that are filling out in preparation for the arrival of her baby calf.
