E9 has been learning incredible skills and Harriet and M15 have proved themselves to be perfect parents. We don’t know E9’s gender and unfortunately, the little eaglet will fledge the nest before we can properly assess gender. Despite that, E9 continues to grow in stature and asserts his or her own will when given the opportunity. Some of E9’s most important lessons include learning how to perch on a branch, stretching his or her wings and eventually taking flight and self-feeding. E9’s flight feathers are still coming in, but you can frequently see him or her stretching and even lifting off of the nest for brief intervals.
You can watch the live streaming Southwest Florida Eagle Cam in the video player above. You can also watch as M15 teaches E9 how to unzip a fish before it’s eaten. Check out some of the video below to see more of what E9 is learning how to accomplish each day.

In the following video you can see E9 as he or she gets aggressive with Mom over the food. While this might seem a negative trait, it’s actually a very important skill that eagles must develop. As birds of prey, eagles can’t sit around meekly waiting for food to come to them. They must be swift and act quickly.
