A cold open is when a television show or movie jumps right in with a skit or scene and skips opening credits. Saturday Night Live regularly uses a cold open sketch then the guest delivers their monologue. You may see the cold open in the video above where Alec Baldwin returned to the set playing Donald Trump accompanied by the Grim Reaper Steve Bannon. Alec Baldwin will host next week’s episode.
It was Kristen Stewart’s first time hosting and she was noticeably shy but did very well. She accidentally said the “F-Word” in her opening, but the way she handled it was hilarious. Of course, only a small segment of viewers heard it live because with on-demand videos many people heard a slightly blocked and edited version. Kristen didn’t waste any time continuing with the Donald Trump bashing. You can read some viewers comments as they were shared through Twitter moments below.
Several Saturday Night Live skits trended throughout the weekend with Melissa McCarthy’s portrayal of White House press secretary Sean Spicer garnering extreme praise and laughter. McCarthy conjured up images of Chris Farley and the two would have made quite a team if he hadn’t tragically passed away. McCarthy’s Spicer impersonation left many people laughing so hard they were in tears and social media networks were flooded with response to the skit.
Kristen Stewart may have been going out with her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson once upon a time, but she made it clear to President Trump and the rest of the world that she is gay, in fact, Stewart said she is “so gay.” In a way, Stewart’s hosting SNL turned out to be a way to come out of the closet and address through skits some of the rumors and news that follows her. Stewart may have been the love interest of Edward Cullen for nearly a decade, but she was taking on challenging roles and when she starred in The Runaways explored some LGBT themes through her portrayal of rock legend Joan Jett. Check out this trending video for Saturday Night Live “Totinos” with a steamy, lesbian theme.
Repertory player Kate McKinnon revived her Justin Bieber character (one of her earliest characters that clued Americans into her amazing and hilarious talent) and played Super Bowl Family Feud against Kristen Stewart’s Gisele Bundchen. You can watch the video below.
